Killercatfish Project -> kW Carbon Footprint Project

We have just committed to electric only vehicles.

When we moved to the woods, as people from all over refer to this part of the commuting suburbia of New England, we had our 2nd Prius hybrid and a Tacoma. We'd started with one Mustang back in college, which lasted a year before we traded it for the First Prius. Which we promptly drove from one coast to the next and over the next 3-4 years we were slowly tugged back to the east coast.

Now Sarah commutes up elevation 180 days a year to work in a used 2017 Leaf (Taco->Leaf), and we just purchased a new EV9 Wind to replace our used 2017 Odyssey. We're fortunate to live where we live, and have the opportunity to purchase these two vastly different ends of the spectrum of EVs.

It is going to be a somewhat uncomfortable process transitioning from one of the best cars I have had the pleasure to own (mini-van) to an electric. We move around a lot during the hockey season, and any attempt to offset this sports footprint is always in my mind. We will see what the range really is!

Free 1,000 kWh came with the purchase price that was reduced by $7500 off the bat before Sarah made her demands which the dealership agreed to a day later. So if I compare this new car to a Telluride which I am happy to share some rough numbers I've rounded up on the etherweb I think we paid maybe $10k for the electric over gas.

So thats approximately 4 years of fuel usage, 10 year 100,000 mile warranty, 6 years free fuel. Not to mention other benefits of simply not burning fuel. Interested in finding out about the processes of fuel production for both gas and electric and seeing the next level of environmental impact.

We're so fortunate to have all that we have, and think it is important to try and give our own children what we are fortunate to be able to do while learning to reduce our daily footprint.

We use electric mini-splits to heat and cool, and are looking to replace the oil boiler for water heating with a hybrid electric tank. It is fascinating that this is seemingly not really on happening more as far as I can tell. So I look forward to seeing where this takes us.

Look. We're all in the moment we're in when we experience being in them moment. Its what do you do with this knowledge in the moments that follow. We've got to do better. I'll share some of my favorite books, mostly speculative fiction and science fiction, not all though. Perfect is like dividing by zero, how close can we approximate it?

I finally got around to writing this after purchasing our EV9 and starting to investigate my footprint at https://www.footprintcalculator.org/ .
